The Modern Valor Co. Coaches

  • I first met Hanis 2 years ago as a training partner and over the years, I’ve seen him grow as a coach, a training partner and as a friend. Hanis is a great coach who cares about every one of his students and gives extra care and attention to those who are new, ensuring they are able to learn new techniques while, most importantly, having fun. He is able to explain new techniques simply and effectively, enabling even those who are new to the sport to be able to figure it out before the class ends. I’m always grateful for his patience and detailed explanations when it comes to teaching me during class and I am sure others would agree as well.

  • In just 3 months, Coach Hanis has completely changed the way I learn and apply BJJ. His teaching makes techniques stick; even if you forget them mentally, they show up naturally during live rounds like muscle memory. He makes drilling engaging by using competition-style scenarios that translate directly to real matches.

He truly cares about his students’ wellbeing, pushing us to improve without burning us out. Beyond being a great coach, he’s also a great friend who’s always willing to help. Training under him makes you want to give back someday, and I’m sure anyone he coaches would feel the same.

  • Hanis created a focused space for development in the art of Jiu Jitsu, allowing me to improve my technique and focus on my health in a fun and dynamic environment. Through the months of training and guidance by Hanis, I have gained a new found confidence in myself along with an appreciation for the art of Jiu Jitsu.

Hanis Herman

Founder/ Coach

Coach Hanis found a deep connection with the art immediately. As the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, he left behind a lifetime of ego-driven sport, finding a new medium of combat after tearing too many ligaments from rugby.

He began competing early, often without coaches by his side, driven by a desire to test himself against others. This grew into a series of competitions internationally, where as a blue belt, he defeated every belt rank in competition apart from black (that milestone is coming very soon).

In 2025, he left a life he felt uncertain about, to follow work that spoke to him like nothing ever had before. A year later, he started Modern Valor Co. to outreach globally for people searching for their own medium of combat, their own canvas to develop themselves, and ultimately, to find their own inner peace.

More coaches joining soon.

As Modern Valor Co. continues to grow, additional coaches will be joining the team across Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai, and Boxing. All coaches are brought on with immense care to maintain a high standard of guidance and instruction. Our goal is to always provide a quality experience for students.
